Literature Text
The boy ran. He ran and ran until he couldn't breathe anymore. He rested his hands on his knees and breathed heavily. Tears ran down his pale cheeks. "Why did I leave...?" He asked himself.
The groaning of the undead could be heard right behind him. Sweat leaked from his forehead. "Mother...where are you...?" The boy knew she couldn't hear his depressed words.
It all started when he and his mother were shopping for bread. After all, that was all they could afford right? They always heard rumors that an evil wizard lurked around the town and would attack when he laid his eyes on his long lost treasure. What was that? Or...who was that? His mother just told him it was just a rumor to scare people. But she was wrong. Right when they were about to leave, the boy heard screaming from a young woman a few feet away from him.
He turned his head in her direction only to see fire....the town was on fire! 'When did this happen?' He thought.
His thoughts were interrupted when his mother spoke, "Leave now! You must be safe! Go!" She called as she pushed him away.
"Mother! Why?!" The boy asked in horror.
Before she could speak, another explosion occurred. This time, there were zombie like brown creatures screeching and walking slowly out of the fire. People were frozen around them. Why weren't they moving? They seemed to be frozen by fear as those monsters walked slowly toward them. His mother covered his eyes as he heard the cries of the citizens who were targeted by the zombies. The boy's mother laid her hand on his back and pushed him forward. "Go, now!" She yelled.
The boy's lower lip trembled. "M-mother..." The boy muttered as tears leaked from his eyes.
The boy nodded and turned around and started to run. After a few steps he bumped into something hard. "Ah-ow." The boy sobbed.
He looked up only to see a pair of dark red eyes surrounded by dark green-grayish skin that belonged to a man. "Yes, you're the one." The man smirked.
The boy screamed and ran forward only to be caught by the strong hands of the man. The little boy raised his hands to attempt to pull down the man's hand when a sudden bright golden light shined from the boy's right hand. "Gahh!" The man screamed and let go of the boy.
He screamed in horror and ran out of the town, "Don't kill me! Please!"
And now here he was. Breathing heavily and trying to catch his breath. He looked at the back of his right hand but saw nothing. 'What...happened?' He thought to himself.
"Honey!" A womanly voice called.
The boy turned around. "Mother?"
"Yes, sweetie." The voice replied.
The boy ran toward the voice in in joy. He brought his arms out, ready to jump into his mother's arms. "Mother!" The boy cried.
He jumped into the arms of the voice only to be squeezed so hard that he couldn't breathe. "M-mom?"
He heard the sound of loud groaning and blood streamed down his shoulder. He was bitten! He looked up only to meet the empty eyes of one of the zombies. "AHHHH!" The boy cried.
He pushed the creature away with his small hands and fled. He ran and ran in fact it seemed like hours when he finally stopped. The boy's vision started to blur and he felt dizzy. He stumbled to the ground and sat down. "Wh-why...me...?" He sobbed
The boy's head was on his knees along with his arms as he sobbed. Suddenly, he felt a large hand rest on his shoulder. "Are you okay, sonny?"
The boy looked up to see a big man with a mustache that looked like two horns. The man saw the tears leaking from his eyes. "What happened? It's the middle of the night. Are your folks worried?" The man asked.
The boy still refused to respond. "Oh, I see. He's come hasn't he?" The man growled.
The scared child looked up and finally responded, "I-I'm alone. I have no home. No mom-" He choked, "I don't get it. What's happening...?"
The older man sighed. "Sonny," The boy looked up. The man held out his hand, "Mayor Bo." He smiled.
The boy smiled and grabbed hold of Mayor Bo's hand and spoke, "Link."
